Room to spread out is rare in Miami-Dade, but it exists. This page shows every single-family home with a Miami mailing address on a lot of one acre (43,560 sq ft) or more, updated from the MLS throughout the day.
A "Miami" address covers much more than the city itself. Most of the acreage listings here sit in unincorporated Miami-Dade: the farm country of the Redland, the older ranch-style streets of Kendall and Killian, and pockets near Bird Road and South Miami.
The Redland is a historic farming area about 20 miles southwest of downtown Miami, named for the red clay over its limestone. It grows tropical fruit found almost nowhere else in the continental U.S. and is home to many plant nurseries. You will find older one- to two-and-a-half-acre ranchettes here, while much of the area lies outside the county's urban development boundary, where agricultural zoning generally calls for about five acres per new home. Check the zoning on any property before you plan to build or subdivide.
Weekends here mean fruit stands, u-pick farms and the 37-acre Fruit & Spice Park, run by Miami-Dade County.
Closer in, a handful of mid-century subdivisions were laid out with large lots. These homes trade at a premium for the land and the location: quick access to the Palmetto Expressway, US 1 and the Turnpike.
